2025-2026 Camry Hybrid recall covers 508,354 vehicles whose instrument cluster can stay blank

Models Camry Hybrid Vehicles 508,354

Toyota is recalling 508,354 Camry Hybrid vehicles from the 2025 and 2026 model years because the 7-inch instrument display, which Toyota calls the combination meter, can stay blank when the car is started. When that happens, the turn signals and hazard lights can stop working, and some warning buzzers, including the seat belt and smart key reminders, do not sound. Dealers will update the meter software free of charge, and NHTSA’s recall record says owner letters were mailed September 28, 2026. Owners can check their VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls.

What is wrong

According to Toyota’s Part 573 report, an error in the meter’s startup sequence can leave the display blank and also disable the turn signal lamps, the hazard function and certain warning buzzers. Toyota told NHTSA this “can reduce the driver’s recognition of the conditions represented by certain telltales/indicators,” that other road users may not see a driver’s intent to turn or a hazard warning, and that an unbelted driver or passenger faces a higher risk of injury in a crash. As a result, the cars may not meet four federal safety standards: FMVSS 101 (controls and displays), 108 (lamps), 114 (theft protection and rollaway prevention) and 208 (occupant crash protection).

Every vehicle in the population has the affected software, the filing says, but “this issue may only occur randomly at startup.” It applies to vehicles with a 7-inch combination meter running specific software from one supplier, named in the report as Visteon Corporation in Mexico. No other Toyota, Lexus or Scion vehicles in the U.S. are covered, according to the dealer notices.

How Toyota found it

Reports of blank meters at startup began arriving in July 2024, Toyota’s chronology says, but parts returned from the field did not reproduce the fault. From October 2025, Toyota and the supplier suspected a software initialization problem and gathered more detailed vehicle data, which let the supplier recreate a blank meter on a test bench. Testing on a complete vehicle began in June 2026, and the condition was reproduced in a car in late July. The recall decision came on July 31, 2026, and the filing with NHTSA followed on August 6.

The fix

Any authorized Toyota dealer will update the combination meter software at no charge. The owner letter puts the work at about one hour, though the dealer may need the car longer, and owners uncomfortable driving in can ask the dealer to arrange pickup. NHTSA’s record does not list the fix as an over-the-air update and carries no do-not-drive or park-outside advisory.

For a blank screen before the repair, the letter gives a temporary reset. In a safe place, with the car off, pull the red 10-amp fuse in the driver’s footwell fuse box (seventh from the top in the left column) for at least 20 seconds using the removal tool stored in the fuse box under the hood, then reinstall it. Toyota still asks owners to get the dealer repair.

Dates and record numbers

Dealers were notified on August 6, 2026, and told not to sell about 400 new vehicles in inventory until repaired. Toyota’s notices and owner letter call the vehicles 2025-2026 model year Camry; NHTSA lists them as Camry Hybrid. Production ran from August 15, 2024, to June 9, 2026, per the Part 573 report, while Toyota’s dealer notices give mid-April 2024 to early June 2026.
